Anthony Sylvester is a CREaTIVE DIRECTOR, BRAND CONSULTANT, AND WRITER based in Ramsgate, England.

Sylvester is the owner and designer for the menswear apparel brand AWMS, specialising in narrative-led products released in small editions. AWMS has consulted for and collaborated with Gitman Vintage, Gloverall, Aubin, Crown Shoes and Jake’s Shirts.

He has written extensively on masculine dress and subcultural history for publications such as Permanent Style, Vice, NME, Mr Porter, GQ Style and Man About Town. He has contributed brand storytelling and content creation for companies such as Drake’s, Bryceland’s, Globe-Trotter, Turnbull & Asser, London Undercover, Timothy Everest and Crown Northampton. 

His first book An Informal Guide To Workwear was published in November 2025 by Batsford Books in the UK and Rizzoli in the USA. He presented the academic paper “Shortcut To Trouble: Subcultural Folk Devils and Haircuts Down Under from The Sharpies to Ned Kelly” at the Globalising Men’s Style Conference organised by London College Of Fashion in 2020. 

Sylvester has cultivated over 30k social media followers and firm relationships based on his approach to design and authorship which is grounded in extensive research of the past century and a half of ‘modern’ menswear, and his particular interests lie at the intersection of clothing and culture and the often knotty evolution of the male wardrobe.
