The mandate of MADSEN SYLVESTER STUDIO is to provide a rent-free, street-level, public-facing space for curators and creatives to showcase experimental and developing practice.

We aim to carve out a small window in the world where practice can evolve and practitioners can meet to collaborate and produce work focused on the cultural relevance of dress and fashion. 

MADSEN SYLVESTER STUDIO is now open to calls for exhibition proposals for February 2026 onward.

To propose an exhibition, please read the below Essential Info and submit 250-350 words (max.) outlining the purpose of your proposed work, approximate object/material list and physical structure of your proposed installation, and a short bio for all visiting curators to:

We endeavour to provide a response to your proposal within 3-4 weeks.

Essential Info:

•Exhibitions must engage with the concepts of dress/fashion and/or the dressed self in the broadest sense;

•MADSEN SYLVESTER STUDIO is located in Ramsgate, Kent (1 hour 20 minutes via high speed train from central London) on a well trafficked street with shops, restaurants, and residential housing - transportation costs to the Studio are the responsibility of the visiting curator/creative; 

•MADSEN SYLVESTER STUDIO offers our exhibition window space rent-free for an agreed period (maximum 4 weeks) for accepted proposals;

•Visiting curators will access the space for install/deinstall and use any external display material or exhibition contents in agreement with the co-founders of the STUDIO, and visiting curators will have the option of using in-house display tools which can (within weight/size limits) enable suspension or mounting of material objects;

•Dimensions of the exhibition space are in diagram below (exterior boundaries: 98cm front panel windowpane, 64cm right panel windowpane, 58cm left panel windowpane, 21cm left boundary wall, 18 right boundary wall, open access to rear with 164cm width, height of ceiling is 217cm).

Note: Windowpanes are not UV-filtered and visiting curators may want to consider this in the proposed length for display of objects.

•Accessibility: there is street access parking, a lip at the door (no step), and no washroom onsite.
